About Mad Morrigan Studios
Hello and welcome!
Mad Morrigan Studios is owned and operated by a single artist - me, Rowan!
Personal History
I started my art journey at the tender age of 13. Even then, I was drawing people. I've always found the most beauty in the human face and form, and that is what inspires my art and process.
When I was 16, I worked all summer to pay my portion of the printing fee to have an independent comic anthology produced and distributed. Yes I still have a copy, no I will not show anyone. 😂
Most of my art career I worked primarily with pen and ink, but also started teaching myself digital art in 2005 back when wacom tablets were huge and clunky, and Photoshop had few shortcuts (yes I am dating myself here). I was also learning to airbrush and do custom paint work for cars, bikes, and various other applications. I took a break for a while when I had my son, and picked my art back up a few years later when I decided to pursue tattooing as a career! Unfortunately I had a work related injury at my regular job that damaged my dominant hand and caused pain when doing repetitive work such as drawing. That pushed me into a depression and ultimately caused me to quit art altogether.
About a decade passed without creating art of any kind. I had fully and completely given up on ever creating again.
At the end of 2022 I found Stray Kids. Beyond adding love and community to my life, something miraculous happened. Watching Hyunjin paint and draw on lives, and share his art on Instagram, I was inspired for the first time in YEARS. I wanted to create. So I went to the dollar store and bought some watercolors and brushes, went home, and played with color on cheap construction paper. It wrinkled, it ran, it bloomed, it looked terrible. But I was -creating- again. And it DIDN'T HURT.
I started this business as a craft store in order to fund my Stray Kids endeavors, and then to support my art journey by adding my art to my business model. Thanks to this I was very quickly able to upgrade to good watercolor paper and better watercolors ...then I moved to Oil paints...then digital art on a tablet.
Favorite Medium
Definitely oil paint on canvas!!! It's messy and time consuming, but the paint spreads like butter and the colors are OH SO vibrant. Picking up oils was like coming come.
My second favorite medium is digital art, and third is gouache used at watercolor consistency!
Do you have a Stray Kids bias?
I absolutely do. After reading my story you may think, 'Oh gosh, it HAS to be Hyunjin'....but alas, no. He has a very special place in my heart (as do they all - each for their own reason), but the Ult Bias position belongs exclusively to Seungmin. Our Vocal King and Forever Singer. He is my muse, and inspired the majority of my art/paintings while I was learning how to art again. 😊 His resilience and dedication to his craft has taught me diligence and perseverance on this new leg of my journey.
How often do you draw/paint?
Almost every single day. My goal is to work for at least 1 hour a day, every day. I usually far exceed that minimum. There are days I spend 6-8 (sometimes even more) hours working on various projects/mediums.
Do you accept Commissions?
Yes! I usually am available for commissions (not just for Stray Kids!). Please inquire for availability/pricing structure.
